About the event

This is an invitation to a transformational process of healing, inhabiting and maybe even restoring the word grief.

Grief is the honouring of what we miss and a deeply vulnerable experience.

Loss of identity, place or belonging, or losses of loved ones all warrant a state of grief. The truth is, there is no fix for grief and no right way to grieve, however it’s important that grief happens.

We are constantly learning to let the process of life unfold, simultaneously with great joy and with great unrest, different sides of the same coin, and with that said, we also each have an important roll to play in grief support.

Have we lost the art of supporting grief as a society? An increased understanding of how to support others through loss is important, as unexpressed grief in our society today is the reason for social, cultural and individual problems, distress and disease.

We can’t escape this universal response, grief is a human experience and the ramifications of not processing our loss, is much broader and more brutal then we think. Understanding grief and how best to support people through loss is critical to the wellness of our collective wellspring.

Outside of the loss of a loved one, is also the other type of loss, of identity and self. We all walk around with the vision of how our lives will play out and how we desire the world to be. We can find ourselves disorientated and held captive, and deep in the grieving process when life is violated, and our expectations are not met, and therefore experience a deep sense of grief. This can also be said to the current political upheaval that can lead to a lost sense of reality and sense of stability when we no longer understand and like how our world operates.

In the brilliant words of John O’Donhue, come and ‘be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul’.

You're invited to come on this extraordinarily important journey lead by Vashti Whitfield. This is a 3–part supper series, opening up and restoring the word grief, inspiring hope, support and courage in living through loss, and inciting the beauty that arises when we do this out loud, with one another.
